What is ThePunkCabaret?
Here art and literature can be submitted that has been inspired by cabaret, burlesque, Gothic, Vaudeville, brechtian, Victorian era or steampunk. Not only is it also a good place to become inspired yourself, but you will probably gain more watchers, comments and favourites, which we all love.
The Themes
Cabaret, burlesque and brechtian are generally the same, revolving around theatre and scantily clad women in fishnet stockings and corsets. There's a whole bunch of stuff on dA with these type of things. Just search them up and you're bound to get results!
We all should know what Gothic is. And we're talking about the dark, quirky illustrations, like the Gothic artist Tim Burton to the perilous stories of Spiderwick. Gothic does not mean submit depressing scene kids moping about their lives.
The Victorian era is one of the most important times in history, being one of the most influential eras for Gothic and Steampunk genres. The Victorian dresses had a class of their own and no one can resist those men in their smart suits, with those dashing top hats.
Steampunk is Victorian era science fiction. Steampunk characters usually have a colour scheme of autumn colours, browns, creams and 'steam' sorts. Most men and even women wear hats with brass goggles. Leather is popular in Steampunk fashion. Lots of Steampunk revolve around clocks, robotic creatures and air balloons.
Vaudeville is a theatre movement, usually related to freak shows and dime museums, with the women wearing corsets and the men in suits. Vaudevillians have talents in all of the arts, including singing, dancing, acrobats and more. Charlie Chaplin was a Vaudevillian.
